Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is used to exfoliate when the skin is producing plenty of skin cells at the lower layers, but not allowing the skin cells to exfoliate at the surface naturally. Microdermabrasion exfoliates the surface dead skin cells, but it does not have the benefit of an acid peel in that it does not send the message to the lower layers to get kick started in moving more skin cells to the surface.

l.e.d. light therapy
led light therapyLED light therapy is an important and highly effective treatment for skin toning, reversal of sun damage, cell nourishment, redness reduction, inflammation reduction and bacteria minimization. This is a relaxing, safe treatment that provides excellent results in about 20 minutes. Like many other treatments at a3 logo, LED light therapy is just one component that helps us achieve maximum results.

Levulan is the application of aminolevulinic acid in conjunction with LED light therapy. This light activated peel creates cell stimulation, which helps improve skin texture and destroys moderately thick grades one and two actinic keratosis or AKs. These abnormalities can be the first step in the development of skin cancer, so it is very important to take care of AKs as soon as possible. The levulan treatment also combats bacteria and reduces the amount of oil produced in the sebacous gland, making this a great treatment for acne patients who usually have over-active oil glands that harbor bacteria. The treatment has minimal down time. You will experience redness and some peeling for several days. It is important to stay completely protected from the sun for 5 days following the treatment.

acid peels
Acid peels and exfoliation are commonly used at a3 logoas preparation for treatments. The skin naturally goes through an exfoliation process by multiplying cells in the lower levels of the skin. Those skin cells then gradually move to the surface and naturally exfoliate off. This process can be very quick from birth to mid-twenties, which is why we have soft, supple skin through those years. In your forties and fifties, the time necessary for this process can approximately double. Acid peels not only exfoliate off the excess dead skin cells, they also send a message down to the lower layers of the skin to start creating new cells and start moving skin cells to the surface, much like it did when you were younger. One important thing to know is that exfoliating the skin as a stand-alone treatment can leave the skin vulnerable to the environment and lacking important nutrients that are necessary in optimal function and balance of the skin. At a3 logo, peels are utilized as a preparation to get the skin functioning optimally, allowing us to achieve maximum desired results on UV damage, texture, skin nutrition, hydration, excessive oiliness, acne, and skin rejuvenation.

It is very important for the skin care professional to pick the appropriate type of peel, percentage of peel and pH of peel, depending on skin type, concern, lifestyle and overall health of your skin. It is also important to pick the proper peel to achieve the results desired. Glycolic acid works most effectively on normal to dry skin, but salicylic is better for oily/congested skin. Azelaic acid is good for patients with rosacea or other irritation, whereas lactic works better on normal aging skin and skin that has sun damage. Jessners and TCA peels work great for deep pigmentation, laxity in the skin, oily and acne prone skin, and thick or textured skin.

Azelaic acid is a prescription-only dicarboxylic acid used for treating inflammation. It is an antioxidant and a great free radical scavenger with anti-bacterial properties. It is used in the treatment of skin conditions like rosacea, acne, and general redness. Azelaic acid is used in professional treatments to calm redness, address bacteria and also reorganize skin cells, making the skin appear smoother and less irritated, or it can be prescribed as an in-home treatment for patients with chronic redness concerns. It is best used on clean, toned skin and followed by a moisturizer and sunscreen. There is no irritation or peeling with the use of azelaic acid, which make this a great treatment for anyone with sensitive skin.

medical grade skin care

Homecare products are the most important step to maintaining healthy skin and achieving or maintaining treatment results. With all of the skin care choices out there, it can be very hard to decide what is exactly right for your skin. We at a3 logo continually research and study skin care and skin care ingredients as more information and products become available. We always recommend medical grade skin care that will provide optimal results with scientific research behind it. We make sure that all of the products have proper valid testing and that we know the ingredients being tested are utilized in proper concentrations. The Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Institute makes certain that we partner with reputable medical and pharmaceutical companies that deliver efficacious formulas and stand behind those formulas with proven clinical studies. With that said, there are many other factors that should be considered before choosing the proper product and regimen. Skin type, skin concern, overall skin health, hormones, lifestyle, climate and desired results are some of the things that the professionals at a3 logo will examine before putting a plan together. Medical grade skin care should be customized for you and should be modified as you achieve desired results. You should always be getting performance from your skin care. We work with you while your skin changes to make sure that you are continuously getting optimal results and value. We also know that proper use of skin care is important and we will do our best in helping you to understand exactly how to use your skin care.

With all of the exciting skin treatments and the incredible results that can be achieved, one of the most important things to remember is sunscreen. Sunscreen is necessary in maintaining those results and warding off the intense UV rays we are all exposed to. Ultraviolet damage is one of the most severe factors of aging that we come in contact with on a daily basis. Even the short walk from the house to the car and little errands around town leave you vulnerable to UV rays. The first line of defense starts with a sunscreen. It is very important that everyone, no matter what skin color or ethnicity, uses sunscreen. We are all susceptible to UVA and UVB rays.

UV exposure can cause many problems with the skin. Skin cancer is the biggest concern with excessive sun exposure, but also pigmentation problems and loss of collagen and elasticity can occur.

It is always very important to use proper sun care; simply having sunscreen in your make-up is not enough. A sunscreen should be both UVA and UVB protective. UVB rays cause the darkening of the skin that results in pigmentation, loss of collagen and some forms of skin cancer. UVA rays are responsible for DNA damage, which harms the cell’s master control, and can also lead to cancer. UVA rays also hurt the collagen fibers in the skin, causing wrinkles and loss of elasticity.

Sunscreen helps provide protection against these damaging rays. It is important to apply sunscreen one half hour before being exposed to the sun and to reapply sunscreen approximately every 80 to 120 minutes if you are in the sun for extended periods of time. Do not allow your sunscreen to be exposed to extreme heat, as it will cause a chemical breakdown of the product and it will not be effective in protecting your skin. Make sure that you purchase fresh product on a regular basis and do not use sunscreen that has been sitting in the cabinet for years; this will ensure efficacy. The SPF number on a sunscreen refers to amount of time that it will provide effective protection, not the strength of protection. A broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 15 and SPF 30 are equal in the amount of protection that they will provide. The SPF 30 will give you more time in the sun before you need to reapply.

Another important factor in the occurrence of sun damage is MED, or minimal erythema dosage. This is the amount of time that it takes your skin to burn without any protection. For instance, if you are light skin colored it takes approximately 10 minutes in the sun to cause a burn. If you take your MED and multiply it by the SPF, you get an approximate amount of time your sunscreen will protect you. For example, if you have a 10 minute MED and you are wearing SPF 15, you should get approximately 150 minutes of sun protection. Unfortunately, this method of calculation becomes inaccurate beyond SPF 30 because many other factors need to be incorporated at that point. Application and amount of product, perspiration and normal everyday activities can cause the sunscreen to wear off or become less protective. So unfortunately, wearing an SPF 50 does not give you 500 minutes in the sun.

While wearing SPF gives you some protection, it does not repair the DNA damage that UV radiation causes or the collagen breakdown that is accelerated by UV exposure. To repair and reverse the damaging effects of UV exposure, you will need to treat your skin with specific skin treatments meant for the purpose of repair.

Tretinoin, also known as retinoic acid, is the acidic form of Vitamin A. Tretinoin softens the adhesive bond that holds skin cells together. It also triggers mitosis, the process by which cells divide and multiply, causing the skin to function more optimally and generate new skin cells at a faster rate. This can sometimes cause temporary undesired dryness or a flaking effect on the skin. At a3 logo, we have found an excellent way to use tretinoin and minimize the dryness, achieving the same results without the side effects. It can be used to treat oily or acne-prone skin because it works to free the skin cell buildup that occurs in the follicle, causing inflammation and irritation, and therefore decreases the amount of oil on the skin. The application and amount of tretinoin prescribed will vary depending on the type of skin and/or skin concern that you have. It is best used with a full skin care regimen, including cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Tretinoin is also very effective in treating aging, tired skin because it minimizes fine lines, creates better texture and reduces pigmentation.

Hydroquinone is a peptide/protein that when topically applied to the skin can suppress the enzyme reaction that triggers the melanocyte to produce melanin, which is what causes pigment in the skin. For approximately every 65 skin cells in human skin, we have one melanocyte. The melanocyte’s job is to produce color when you are over exposed to the sun to help protect the skin, but when melanocytes have been damaged by too much sun exposure, they start to malfunction and produce color in an irregular pattern, seen as age spots on the skin. Sun exposure that damages the melanocyte usually occurs between the ages of 5 and 20 years old when we are out in the sun without effective sun protection. When utilizing hydroquinone, the enzyme action that triggers melanin is suppressed and the melanocyte will not produce as much melanin. Over time, this will allow the old pigment or the age spot to diminish while new pigment is not being formed. The result is lightening of the pigmentation and more even skin tone. Sunscreen must be used and reapplied throughout the day while using hydroquinone or you will not get desired results. Hydroquinone should only be used for three consecutive months, followed by a one-month break. During the break period, a3 logo has effective alternatives to keep you achieving results. Pregnant women should not use hydroquinone; a3 logo offers other treatments and products that are safe for pregnant women and highly effective in the lightening of pigmentation.

Grapeseed extract is a proanthocyanidin, a rich polyphenol or antioxidant that has shown to effect tyrosinase, the enzyme that triggers melanin to produce in the skin, which counters pigmentation and produces a lightening effect on the skin. At a3 logo, we approach pigmentation very seriously and have many treatments to suppress the discoloration of skin. The first step is to find the reason why pigmentation is occurring, as there are many interacting factors that can cause it, and then formulate the proper plan of attack. It is important to treat the underlying condition and not simply the symptoms, as this will only result in a temporary outcome and not a long-term solution.

transdermal infusion
Our approach to healthy skin is a combination of skin renewal and nourishment to prepare the skin for laser and other medical grade treatments. To achieve this high level of nourishment in the skin, we use transdermal infusion utilizing iontophoresis technology. Transdermal iontophoresis is an effective technique that transports treatment compounds deep into the skin where topical skin care products just cannot reach. We are able to deliver skin-lightening agents, peptides and proteins for collagen support, anti-inflammatories and many other ingredients necessary to achieve optimal results. This treatment not only nourishes the skin but also increases elasticity, stimulates collagen, lightens UV damage, and firms and tightens the skin.

radiofrequency assisted lipoplasty
Radio Frequency electric fields are created between two electrodes that cause molecules to rotate or move. At the surface of the skin, the charge is changing polarity from positive to negative, alternately attracting and repelling electrons and charged ions. Polar molecules are induced to rotate back and forth causing cellular friction.  It is the resistance to this movement that creates heat in the tissue. This heat is not surface heat but rather deep, cellular level heat.  It stimulates fibroblast to make collagen, thus tightening and improving skin texture. Deep circulation is stimulated to deliver nutrients and remove toxins from the skin. The lymphatic system is also stimulated to decrease puffiness and dark circles under the eyes and also to greatly improve the appearance of cellulite.

We use this on every part of the body.  When concentrating on facial rejuvenation, we are seeing great results in reducing skin laxity, under eye puffiness, dark circles, improved skin texture and overall health.  This deep heat is the stimulus the body needs to regenerate and therefore make the skin more youthful. When we use this tool on the body, we are able to melt fat and at the same time, tighten and bring back to life dormant, aging, damaged skin.  This treatment addresses many of the underlying causes of cellulite such as poor blood flow, poor lymphatic flow, dysfunctional collagen and small pockets of fat that get trapped.

The fat is taken up by the lymphatic system, processed by the liver, and excreted with the feces. This is why the wellness/detox program done in conjunction with the treatments makes it that much more effective.  The more the liver and other processing functions are optimized, the better removal of the fat. The detox program is a very simple way of eating in conjunction with Physician Grade Medical food supplements to deliver ultra-nutrition to the body, thus providing all the building blocks necessary for optimal function.

Microdermabrasion
LipoDissolve is a viable alternative to liposuction for decreasing discrete areas of fat with less risk of complication and a very short recovery period. LipoDissolve is administered through small injections and breaks down the bonds that maintain the solid form of body fat. Once the fat is converted to a liquid form, the body removes the fat naturally at much more rapid pace than the normal metabolism is able to accomplish. The body’s fat removal process will take from several weeks to a few months to complete, depending upon the patient.

This treatment delivers great results, as it not only melts fat but also tightens the skin in the treated area, providing a smooth even result.

LipoDissolve can be used to correct a double chin, a slightly protruding belly, arm and back fat, dimpled thighs, a thick waist, and many other areas of the body where fat deposits tend to accumulate.

medical injectables

medical injectablesSome of the facial aging we all experience is brought about by the force of gravity pulling at us and by sun damage. But another cause is the facial expressions that we make every day. BOTOX ® Cosmetic relaxes the muscles we use to make facial expressions, softening or eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. BOTOX ® Cosmetic can improve areas around the eyes, forehead, and mouth including:
  • Wrinkles across in the forehead
  • Frown lines between the brows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Vertical lines next to and above the mouth
  • Brow Elevation
  • Excessive sweating under the arms & palms
  • Muscle bands in the neck
BOTOX ® Cosmetic is a purified protein complex which blocks nerve impulses. When injected into the muscle it relaxes the muscle, preventing contractions, and keeping the skin smooth.
the procedure
Tiny injections are made into specific areas of muscle. BOTOX ® Cosmetic only affects the muscle into which it is injected. Surrounding tissue is unaffected, so the results look very natural.

The treatment itself is performed in our office and takes only a few minutes. Typically, after about three or four days you’ll notice the effect (but can be up to 14 days) and the results last from three to five months. The treatment can be repeated as soon as you need it again, and the effects tend to last longer with subsequent treatments.

BOTOX ® Cosmetic treatments can be combined with other procedures, such as the Cynosure Affirm Laser, and injectable fillers, for an even better and longer-lasting result.

Dr. Roy also injects BOTOX ® to relieve headaches and reduce excess sweating in the palms and underarms.

Dr. Lisbeth W. Roy and her associates are expert injectors sought after in the Tampa Bay market and beyond. She has trained many medical professionals in her techniques and artistry. Dr. Roy’s approach is to ensure her patients look natural and fresh. She studies the anatomy of each face and develops a plan according to each individual’s facial structure and desired outcome.
the procedure
Fillers are used to enhance hands, cheekbones, lips, the jaw line, sunken eyes, nasolabial folds and even the nose.

Dr. Roy has also mastered a technique that is virtually painless and significantly minimizes the chance of bruising or significant swelling in the treated area. Dr. Roy is experienced with many dermal fillers and the best application of each. Below are those used at the Anti-Aging & Aesthetic Institute.

restylaneRestylane® and Perlane® are cosmetic dermal fillers that replace lost volume and restore youthful contours to the skin to smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane is the world's most used, most studied dermal filler, and has been used in over 70 countries and in more than 1.4 million treatments in the U.S.

perlaneRestylane® and Perlane®: Long-lasting for about six months

If you're considering treatment for your facial wrinkles and folds, we invite you to learn important facts about Restylane® and Perlane®, including how they provide structural support and lift to nasolabial folds. The procedure is non-surgical, and its effects are virtually instantaneous.

perlaneJuvéderm™ is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to 1 year. The unique manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also creates a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone willl notice (but no one will know)! Only Juvéderm™ is so smooth—other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels.

Visit www.juvederm.com for more information.

perlaneRadiesse® is a very versatile, long-lasting filler made from calcium hydroxylapatite and methycellulose. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a naturally occurring mineral found in bones and teeth. Over time your body replaces the methylcellulose with collagen while the calcium hydroxylapatite stays in place as a framework for the collagen. Radiesse represents a new generation of injectable filler which delivers long term or semi- permanent correction of facial folds, deep lines, as well as contour deformities of the face. Unlike other fillers, Radiesse may be injected into various depths or planes which provides much more support to the facial tissues by replacing volume where it has been lost rather than just camouflaging the problem with a superficial filler.

Dr. Roy uses many injection techniques based on the individual and the desired result, one of which is where the injection is carried out through the mouth and the Radiesse injected directly on top of the bone. This reduces bruising and swelling, but also provides an enhanced, natural looking and feeling result for resurfacing the cheeks and jaw line. Radiesse has become one of Dr. Roy’s choice fillers based on her experience with the product and the results provided to her patients.

the procedure
As early as 1917, Albert Einstein had developed the theoretical basis for lasers. The term L-A-S-E-R is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (radiation here meaning light radiation). However, it was only in 1960, following much work by Soviet and U.S. scientists, that an American team of researchers finally overcame the technological hurdles and assembled the first rudimentary but workable laser. Since then, lasers have undergone a rapid advance. Surgeons were quick to recognize the potential for a highly focused cutting beam. By 1965, the first laser was in use for treating certain eye problems, such as a torn retina. Although the early machines were cumbersome and impractical, by the early 1970s argon lasers were being used experimentally for several medical procedures, including the treatment of diabetic eye problems and removal of small skin growths.

Laser technology has found its way into a broad range of medical specialties and is one of the primary tools used in advanced anti-aging practices.

Dr. Roy has advanced laser training in the use of Cynosure lasers for anti-aging treatments.
